Okay let’s chat: You know those hidden gems around the city you’ve heard of and want to get to? That’s Peewinkle’s Puppet Studio.
In its new location at the Indiana State Museum, Peewinkles is one of those spots that’s a hit with the kids and adults alike. A nod to the olden days, the puppets and puppeteers take you back to simple classic entertainment. Not to mention great music to keep your toes tapping during
performances.
Last weekend they opened their 19th season of the Slightly Haunted Puppet Studio show and it does not disappoint. Slightly creepy puppets and lighting make for a slightly scary yet enjoyable performance for all ages. We took our one and five year old and both loved it.
From their website: “This classic Halloween puppet production has become a tradition for many audiences in October. You will be comically bewitched by Witch Gertrude as she makes her stew and introduces you to her ghoulish marionette friends.”
During the 45-minute show, Witch Gertrude introduces you to her ghoulish friends like Zombie and Dracula. She is quite entertaining and Zombie is a great comical sidekick. You’ll be entertained the entire show! Watching the ghosts fly and the skeletons dancing around the stage is mesmerizing.
This might seriously be one of my favorite places in Indy. I love that it’s perfect for the whole family, easy to get to, and treats you to something you don’t see everyday anymore. {Lighting, music, free popcorn – what more could you want?} And in my opinion nothing can be bad about something a little vintage with old world charm.
After every show – and for just $3 – kiddos can participate in a workshop where they create their own puppet. I let my five year old do this every time… They create, show off their new puppets on the stage, and she plays with it the whole way home! Definitely well worth $3.
So if you are looking for something to do this Halloween season that’s great for the whole family, the studio will be slightly haunted for a couple weeks. I’m sure Witch Gertrude would hate, I mean love to see you!
